As a student, making revision and studying more enjoyable and less tiring is a battle I have been fighting for a long time, from having the best lighting to the best snacks to increase productivity, so I thought for this blog post I would show you my study essentials, which have HUGELY helped me keep my concentration levels up and make the whole experience more, dare I say… FUN?! Yes it is possible to make revision/ doing homework for school/college interesting, and these essentials and tips make it easier to do so. But everyone is different so if you have any other ideas let me know in the comments below!
- MAKE THE BEST WORKSPACE
Now this does not mean using your bed, because did you know working on your bed can make you tired more easily, as your body registers that this is the place for sleeping, not studying, so your brain starts to switch off thinking it’s going to bed – SO DO NOT WORK ON YOUR BED!! Or your kitchen table (unless it is quiet there). Try to make a small space in your room solely used for studying – complete with a small table and comfy chair so you don’t get backaches, and a light to focus your attention to what’s in front of you. Also, keep it TIDY. Not just from the outside, but the inside too, so there are less distractions. If you have space for it, personalise it with little lights/photos as this will make you appreciate your work space more so be more inclined to work there – but keep it minimal (tumblr and pinterest are really helpful). Some people like to put up inspirational quotes, which rarely work for me personally but if you are into that sort of thing, go for it! You can print them online, then get some cheap frames (IKEA’s ones are so cheap but such good quality) and hang them on a nearby wall.
2. SNACKS, SNACKS AND MORE SNACKS
If you plan on working for a long period of time (with breaks in between of course) keep some snacks on standby. And by snacks, I mean HEALTHY food. What classes as healthy food you ask? No, I don’t mean you have to live off berries and nuts (but if you like those deffo use them as study snacks) I mean literally anything other than white carbs, processed sugary or fatty foods. So if you like foods like baked beans or chickpeas use those! Or healthier cereal bars like the NAKED bars which are sosososo lush. Also, keep water at hand! Not coffee/tea/hot chocolate but water, there is literally nothing better for you to drink especially when working. Drinking caffeinated drinks will overall reduce your productivity and mess up your hormone balance etc so why do it?? Now and then it is not too bad but try to aim to drink only water when studying.
3. READ THE MATERIAL
Obvious but read it, then read it later that day, then before you go to bed, then as soon as you wake up, basically reread your notes literally whenever you can, keeping a copy on flashcards so they’re portable. However tedious this may sound, subconsciously you’ll start to pick up the terminology and and this will aid your main revision sessions.
I know there are not a lot of tips on here but if you want some more check out my Revision Techniques post further down the home screen page.Let me know in the comments what works for you, and if you are going to try any of these tips
Bye for now 😉
